Job summary

The role of the Business Intelligence team is to promote and support the effective use of data, information, knowledge and technology to provide excellent quality clinical care to patients in the Black Country, in conjunction with its partners throughout the wider health community.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Business Intelligence team in developing and maintaining the Trust's information infrastructure, ensuring it is relevant, operationally stable and efficient.

The post holder will take responsibility for managing the Trust's Data Reporting Servers and lead on the maintenance and development of the Trust's clinical information and reporting system.

The post holder will have full understanding of relational databases in order to provide analytical expertise, develop reporting solutions and ensure managers and clinicians have trusted information to assist them in delivering high quality services to service users.

To liaise with external agencies and suppliers as required ensuring business continuity of the Trust's BI Reporting System is not compromised.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist knowledge and understanding of clinical systems and electronic patient record (EPR) architecture and the database schema.
  • Assist in the development of new datasets required to support the ever changing requirements and business processes of the Trust
  • Develop scripts in MSSQL
  • To investigate and report on how to best manage a multi MSSQL Server database environment taking into account such aspects as maintenance, tuning, backup and restoration and disaster recovery. To discuss the implementation of any findings and to lead on implementing these plans in partnership with ICT / External System Suppliers. To include SSIS and SSRS.
  • Responsible for the development, maintenance and interpretation of a large number of diverse and highly complex information data sources and extracts.
  • Work with finance, workforce, governance, estates and other corporate colleagues to develop the integrated reporting framework.
  • To have a thorough understanding of the NHS, its data items, its Key Performance Indicators (KPI's), its working practices and its legislation relating to data and information handling.
  • Develop and maintain reports as required to support statutory returns, research and audit, commissioning, service review, clinical/operational and performance management.
  • Work with the Business Intelligence team to develop automated reporting solutions.
