Job summary

The role of the Lead Named Nurse for Safeguarding Adults is an operational role leading on the management of Associate Named Nurse for Safeguarding Adults across Black Country Healthcare Trust acute and community services.

The role is that of a highly developed specialist for safeguarding and will be expected to work as the Lead Named Nurse for Adults, supporting the division in meeting their statutory obligations for safeguarding by providing safeguarding operational leadership through the provision of policy, governance and service development around safeguarding across the division.

Main duties of the job

The role requires collaborative working and the development of effective inter- disciplinary and inter-agency relationships with all partner agencies in order to minimise the risks to people at risk of abuse and neglect and you will support an ethos of advocacy for service users within to service to ensure safeguarding remains a priority for staff delivering services.

As the Lead Named Nurse for Safeguarding Adults you will ensure these obligations are fulfilled by providing operational management to the Associate Named Nurses across the field of safeguarding.

Delivery of a high quality safeguarding adult's service with development and implementation of effective systems and processes which are evidence based across the Mental Health service. The role requires collaborative working and the development of effective inter- disciplinary and inter-agency relationships with all partner agencies in order to minimise the risks to adults.

The post holder will be an integral part of the Safeguarding Team providing a visible & accessible presence within the Trust to whom staff can turn to for assistance, advice and support. Providing safeguarding specialist knowledge, expert advice and guidance to the Trust regarding statutory safeguarding responsibilities. Supporting staff across the footprint of BCHFT including supporting Safeguarding Champions, Nurses & Doctors in discharging their responsibilities.

Job responsibilities

Maintain expertise, knowledge and professional leadership to the Trust regarding statutory responsibilities towards safeguarding adults.

Work closely with the Head of Safeguarding to support the Trust in complying with safeguarding duties.

The post holder will provide strong adult safeguarding leadership within the Trust to promote high standards of patient safety and patient experience always incorporating the Think Family model of safeguarding.

To work alongside the Lead Named Nurses to encourage and ethos of Trust wide partnership working is upheld in relation to Domestic Abuse (DA) & the wider Exploitation agenda, considering the wider Think Family model of safeguarding for Children, Young People and Adults.

To support the Trust PiPoT lead by participating and contributing to meetings and safeguarding investigations, to develop an appropriate response, remedial action and take required to deal effectively with complaints and incidents as they arrive locally within the service.

Contribute to the identification and management of risk by provision of expert knowledge and advice to the Trust regarding safeguarding adult guidelines, procedures, policy, legislation and best practice guidance and escalating to the Associate Director for Safeguarding as appropriate.

Deliver relevant written reports of safeguarding adults activity including safeguarding adults reports and quarterly reports, as directed by the Associate Director for Safeguarding.

To be accountable for the provision and quality of safeguarding training delivered by Associate Named Nurses to staff from induction to more advanced training needs.

Contribute to the training development plan for Associate Named Nurses.

To provide peer support to the Lead Named Nurses & to ensure that Domestic Homicide Reviews (DHR), Safeguarding Adults Reviews (SAR) Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews (CSPR) are completed and submitted within appropriate timeliness and ensure the Associate Director for Safeguarding provides approval before submission.

Contribute to multi-agency sub- groups to ensure the compliance of Local Adult Safeguarding Partnerships/Boards (LSCB/P), as directed by the Head of Safeguarding.

To work closely with MHA/MCA lead across the Trust to ensure that there is a clear understanding of mental capacity and how this can impact on safeguarding functions and LPS code of Conduct.

The post holder will ensure the promotion of equality and diversity, social inclusion of vulnerable adults, and ensure that they are incorporated into all aspects of Safeguarding practice across the Trust.

Collaborate with the clinical teams regarding adults with care and support needs, Patient Safety and Experience workstreams i.e., pressure ulcers, safe discharge, dementia awareness, hydration and nutrition etc.

Provide specialist advice to practitioners, actively and reactively, including clarification about organisational policies, legal issues and the management of child protection cases.

Provide safeguarding supervision to clinical leads and supports and resources reflective practice, including peer review across mental health division.

Provide oversight of the safeguarding adult supervision and supports and resources reflective practice for the clinical leads.

Contributes to the development of work practices, protocols and guidelines within to ensure that safeguarding adults is embedded and prioritised.

Leads on planning, carrying out and disseminating findings from auditing safeguarding.

Provide quarterly performance indicator data to the Associate Director for Safeguarding to inform the CCG and Safeguarding Adults Boards.
