Birmingham Womens
and Childrens NHS Foundation Trust (BWC) is seeking to recruit a Consultant
CMHT Psychiatrist who is committed to working with young adults aged 18-25 with
mental ill-health & neurodevelopmental conditions as well as contribute to
providing psychiatric & medical risk management in the community.. This
post is to provide senior specialist input as well as medical leadership within
an established multidisciplinary community team.
The Consultant
Psychiatrist will have a central role within an MDT context in delivering
psychiatric assessment and treatment for a caseload of complex patients and
their families, as well as contribute to providing psychiatric & medical
risk management. The Consultant will support the hub core team medical lead and
other MDT professional leads in participating with quality improvement &
clinical governance activities.
The
clinical base for the post is The Oaklands Centre in Selly Oak.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the
role are:
To provide a community-based service for the
assessment, treatment and continuing care of young adults suffering from
psychiatric and emotional disorders, within the South Locality of Birmingham.
To work alongside the multi-disciplinary team in the
provision of services for this area and, in particular, to provide assessment
and evaluation of cases where a psychiatric disorder is suspected.
To
provide direct psychiatric services through the comprehensive assessment,
diagnosis and care plan and treatment formulation, guidance on evidence-based
treatment and effectiveness.
The post holder
will be required to hold overall clinical/medical responsibility for 18-25 year
olds and review patients at a frequency according to their clinical need and
risks.
Providing
psychiatric leadership to the multidisciplinary teams and clinical leadership
in collaboration with the team leaders.
Provide effective
leadership and management to staff which promotes the Trusts values and high performance standards both individually and
as a team, in the achievement of the Trusts objectives and priorities.
To maintain professional registration with the General
Medical Council, Mental Health Act Section 12 (2) approval, Approved Clinician
status and abide by Professional Codes of Conduct.
To participate in the Consultant on-call rota covering
out of hours responsibilities including weekends.

Essential
- Provision of high quality mental services, as trainee or consultant.
- A broad range of experience in adult psychiatry and working with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Experience of assessment, treatment and medical monitoring of patients and their families
- Experience of working in a community mental health setting.
- Able to manage duties under the MHA, including assessment of patients in Place of Safety detained under Section 136.
- Experience with the treatment of patients with complex mental disorders, neurodevelopmental conditions, emotional trauma and emerging personality disorders
- Management of patients under CPA and who require stepping up to or stepping down from Crisis/Home Treatment, including those being discharged from in-patient care.
- Ability to supervise and train junior medical staff.
- Ability to lead on investigations, SIRI, complaints, and helping with complex clinical formulations
- Knowledge & experience of clinical audit.
- Knowledge/experience of clinical governance i.e. conducting investigations into incidents, complaints etc.
- Active participation in Clinical audit
