Junior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Surgery and Gastroenterology

Job summary

Applications are invited for a six-month rotation at Birmingham Children's Hospital, one of the busiest paediatric hospitals in the United Kingdom. The post comprises a three-month placement within the Paediatric Surgery Department, followed by a further three months in the Gastroenterology Department. The role includes out-of-hours on-call cross-cover for Paediatric Trauma and Orthopaedics, Otolaryngology, Neurosurgery, and Plastic Surgery. The successful applicant will ideally be keen and enthusiastic, with an interest in pursuing a future career in Paediatric Surgery and Urology.

Main duties of the job

The Department of Paediatric Surgery and Urology consists of 14 Consultant Paediatric Surgeons and Urologists. The department serves a regional population of over five million, in addition to receiving supra-regional referrals for complex cases. Two Paediatric Hepatobiliary and Transplant Surgeons also provide specialist expertise and training.

The placement offers exposure to a wide range of paediatric thoracic surgery at a tertiary level. Successful candidates will join the Tier 1 Resident Doctors group on the Paediatric Surgery and Urology on-call rota.

Applicants should possess an MBBS degree or a recognised equivalent European qualification.
