Job summary
This is a tri-partite role between HEE, employing Trusts and RCS England; this includes:
responsibility for ensuring that the Clinical and Education Supervisors in the Trusts receive training regarding the Core Surgery Curriculum including the new general professional capabilities, how to support trainees in difficulty locally and through the Professional Support Unit, the ISCP and ARCP processes and outcomes.
the initial contact for local training, education and guidance with the support of the Core Training Programme Directors and Head of School if required. For trainees in higher surgical training, they should support the relevant Training Programme Director in developing a suitable training environment including interaction with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the Post Graduate Clinical Tutor (PGCT).
Responsibility for core surgical trainees including non-HEE, locally appointed doctors and other specialty trainees including FY and GP trainees in surgery.
Active involvement in medical workforce planning related to surgical trainees within the Trust
Engagement in postgraduate activities including PMETC in liaison with postgrad clinical tutor.
Main duties of the job
You will have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, with an ability to deal with difficult situations. Proven ability to contribute to effective multidisciplinary teams with a positive attitude towards multi-professional working.

- Applicant must be a surgeon who holds their CCT or is on the Specialist Register and holds a minimum 5 session contract with the Trust
- Has attended a training course for educational supervisors (GMC preferably)
Knowledge
Essential
- Fellow of the College in good standing
- Holds a consultant, SAS surgeon, or equivalent senior medical post
- Knowledge of education principles, with an active, informed and continuing interest in postgraduate medical education and career guidance of surgeons in training.
- Previous experience of postgraduate education
- Knowledge of College activities and services, and a willingness to promote and signpost as appropriate
- Knowledge of management structures at Trust and NHSE level.
- Knowledge of IT / online education and recruitment systems
- Up to date with current issues in medical education and those issues affecting the relevant School of Surgery area and / or Trust
