Job summary

Toucan (West Midlands CAMHS Provider Collaborative) have a real desire to ensure that our workforce has the necessary skills and training to provide excellent care. We are very excited to recruit Professional Educators to join our team with a clear remit to support staff development, access to training, supervision, and career progression.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for mentoring, training, and development, whilst being motivated to learn new skills with the understanding that engagement with staff and service users along this journey is fundamental.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the planning, delivery and evaluation of mental health training across the Mental Health CAMHS Services which we commission. This will include scoping the existing knowledge, skills and competencies of the clinical workforce.

The post-holder will work in partnership with Clinical leads to establish, implement, and maintain a developing Care Model in CAMHS Mental Health Services (MHS), which will be underpinned with training, supervision, and professional development.

This role will ensure there is a clear oversight, process, and evaluation of the training needs analysis of CAMHS MHS's, working collaboratively with fellow Educators and the Workforce Development Lead.

It will be essential to be accessible and visible amongst the clinical pathways and teams to support the ongoing development needs of staff.

Main duties of the job

To create an environment where staff feel motivated, supported, engaged, well led and are

able to engage in professional and career development conversations.

To offer and develop programs of training and education that facilitate the on-going professional development for all levels of clinical and non-registered clinical workforce.

Maintaining a high clinical profile, working with mental health services to educate and develop knowledge and skills.

To participate in quality improvement and service evaluation, embedding learning to practice.

To support the development of theory to practice with CAMHS Clinical Competencies.

To lead on Training Needs Analysis, identifying training and development needs alongside any skills gaps of the workforce.

To support the delivery of a Workforce Development Strategy.

Establishing and maintaining an effective clinical educational environment that supports staff in the delivery of safe, high quality, evidence-based care for Children Young People and their families who access services.

To act as an expert resource, demonstrating high standards of care and clinical expertise in the delivery of CAMHS mental health care.

To maintain a high clinical profile in the clinical environment supporting and developing staff and contributing to the clinical service needs.

Be highly flexible to support new initiatives, changes to practice and embed evidence-based practice in a wide range of clinical settings.

Essential

  • One of the following NMC registered Mental Health Nurse (RNMH- RNLD), HCPC Registered Social Worker, HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist, UKCP Psychotherapist, Equivalent Postgraduate training
  • Professional knowledge acquired through degree supplemented by specialist knowledge of mentorship, education and development practice to master's level or equivalent experience.
  • Teaching / assessing qualification i.e., PG Cert or willingness to undertake

Desirable

  • Health care management / leadership training / development.

Knowledge & Nature of Experience

Essential

  • Current / post experience as a Band 6 or above in a CAMHS Mental Health NHS or health and care environment associated with the practice-based assessment / supervision and mentorship of others to agreed levels of competence.
  • Significant experience of working in an NHS / Health and care provider familiar with a variety of care pathways for Mental Health Services.
  • Confident and experienced practice educator / facilitator with demonstrable experience in using tact, diplomacy and negotiation skills across professional boundaries.
  • Experience in teaching and assessing in clinical practice via a variety of media.
  • Experience in teaching/ educating groups or on a one-to one basis on a range of subjects associated with mental health practice.
