Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust

Fellow in Paediatric Palliative Medicine

The closing date is 21 November 2025

Job summary

We welcome applications from an enthusiastic Consultant-level paediatrician for an exciting opportunity to gain additional training and skills in paediatric palliative medicine during a two-year part time fellowship. Applicants must have paediatric experience equivalent to Consultant level to join an innovative and progressive multi-disciplinary team working across organisational boundaries to serve the needs of life-limited children across the West Midlands. Birmingham is an interesting and challenging place to work with many areas with high deprivation indices, a diverse demographic and twice the national prevalence of children with life-limiting conditions.

Main duties of the job

The programme is part time (5 programmed activities per week) and will be based at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust. The programme will include extensive experience with inpatients, outpatients, community and hospice patients in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands. The caseload varies from antenatal to transition age children with a broad range of symptom management and diagnoses. The work will require flexibility, adaptability and independent transport means to meet clinical needs. It will include providing out of hours telephone support to clinical teams. The programme has been approved by the RCPCH College Specialty Advisory Committee for SPIN (Special Interest) accreditation.

The applicant must have written evidence of approval in principle from their current employer/line manager for the necessary change in job plan to accommodate this fellowship at the time of application. The Fellowship is available to start as soon as possible.
