Associate Respiratory Physiologist

Job summary

Perform basic lung function/sleep procedures in a variety of clinical settings

Assist in performance of specialised lung function/sleep procedures

Calibrate and quality control equipment required to perform basic lung function procedures

Technical reporting of Lung Function/sleep

Maintain accurate patient information systems

Undertake administration duties e.g. posting results, answering telephone queries

Assist with training and supervision of less experienced staff

Support paediatric asthma community diagnostic centre(s) around Birmingham

Support the departments sleep service and the role will require overnight work on our inpatient sleep service.

To create a child friendly environment to enable children to feel relaxed in a clinical setting and thus obtain optimal clinically reliable results

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have knowledge in Respiratory Physiology through formal or informal training and able to competently perform Spirometry, Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) and bronchodilator reversibility to an ARTP standard. The candidate is expected to be able to perform gas transfer or working towards this.

Autonomously perform spirometry, FeNO and bronchodilator reversibility in outpatient clinic within the Trust and Paediatric asthma CDC in the community.

The post holder will be expected to perform test to the current standard guideline for the measurement of lung function, recommended bythe Association of Respiratory Technicians and Physiologists (ARTP); American Thoracic Society, NICE and the British Thoracic Society (BTS).
