An exciting opportunity has arisen to undertake the role of Clinical Service Lead for General Paediatrics in the Medicine Division, Urgent and Critical Care.
This is a 3 year post with a job planned at 1 PA.

Main duties of the job
The role of the Clinical Service Lead at Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital is to provide senior level leadership and direction in a speciality area within a Directorate. The Clinical Service Lead provides support to the Clinical Service Director in developing clinical services, enhancing the safety and quality of patient care, ensuring delivery against performance targets including financial balance and the management of the multidisciplinary team.
The post holder will be a substantive medical or dental consultant employed by the Trust, or a clinician from another profession employed in a substantive clinical post of equivalent seniority within the Trust. They should have wide experience and clinical knowledge of the specialty involved. It is expected that the Clinical Service Lead will have undertaken the Trust's senior leaders' development programme before appointment.

- To act as the clinical leader for the specialty, ensuring that staff work to the highest professional standards and that governance, safety and R&D are promoted across the specialty
- Participate in regular reviews and audit of clinical standards and performance, taking steps to remedy any deficiencies.
- Work with clinical staff from within and outside the speciality on the development of clinical protocols and guidelines.
- Lead and develop the speciality team promoting the right behaviours in line with the Trust values
- Encourage and role model effective team and inter-team working keeping our patients at the heart of service improvement
- Ensure that all consultant and SAS doctors job plans are reviewed, agreed and signed off annually. All job plans must be approved by the CSD before final sign off.
- Ensure the day time and out of hours rota provides appropriate, equitable cover.
- Take overall responsibility for the management of all junior doctors across the specialty.
- Ensure that systems are in place through a nominated specialty lead to ensure compliance of doctors working patterns and rotas with working time and New Deal regulations.
- Ensure that annual appraisals take place for all doctors within their sphere of control according to the Trusts policy, GMC standards and Royal College guidance. They should ensure joint appraisal of clinical academics in the specialty with the University. They should participate in joint appraisal of advanced practitioners within the specialty working in clinical roles that are traditionally undertaken by doctors.
