Radiology Support Worker

Job summary

At Birmingham Children's Hospital we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join our friendly Radiology Imaging Department.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside our team of dedicated and specialised paediatric radiographers and sonographers. You will support them with to carry out imaging examinations for the paediatric population (0-16 years) from the West Midlands and beyond.

Main duties of the job

Working in all imaging modalities - CT/MRI/Ultrasound/X-ray and Fluoroscopy

Ultrasound

Arrange in-patient appointments and contact relevant wards informing them of appointment times and patient preparation required for the examination.

MRI

Awareness of MRI safety and work with the radiographers to ensure a safe environment for all. Help the radiographers with completing MRI safety questionnaires, advising and preparing patients and their carers before entering the MRI environment. Helping patients to overcome their fears of claustrophobia and work alongside the play specialist and radiographers to ensure the best experience for our patients.

General duties

Providing reassurance to patients such as using distraction techniques whilst the sonographer or radiographer carries out the imaging examination.

Cleaning and preparing imaging rooms.

Ordering and maintaining stock levels for the whole department.

Contribute to the annual stock take.

Use the Radiology Information System, Scheduler and Trust Electronic Patient Systems to ensure accurate data recording.

Carrying out health and safety checks in the departments i.e. daily checks on oxygen and suction equipment and on the baby changing facilities.

Being a link worker for the department i.e. manual handling and be available to assist with the movement of patients onto the imaging beds.
