Job summary
Provide support and guidance for IMGs and champion the needs of these doctors within the organisation in collaboration with the Director of Medical Education (DME) and Postgraduate Clinical Tutors (PGCTs).
This role has been developed as a national requirement to meet the standards outlined by the General Medical Council (GMC). We are required to have a baseline of best practice where data demonstrates compliance against the national standards.
Main duties of the job
Take a strategic leadership role across all specialties to enhance the working experience of IMGs across all grades from recruitment through to induction, first weeks in the role and onwards, evaluating IMG experiences.
Ensure IMG posts are financially supported by the organisation, including provision of adequate time and funding to enable professional development, eportfolio completion, appraisal and career advice.
Develop pastoral support networks to integrate IMGs into BWC and lead on any strategic development needs.

In collaboration with the PGME team, develops a system of quality metrics to inform IMG support and training, ensuring there are systems in place to monitor progress and facilitate development of IMG trainers and supervisors.
Work closely with Clinical Leads to ensure every IMG has a named Clinical Supervisor and that these supervisors are appropriately trained to fulfil their role.
Work with Clinical Leads to secure funding support for professional development time and funding for IMGs, including access to an appropriate educational portfolio, equivalent to SAS and Consultant grades.
Evaluate the effectiveness of the IMG Lead role to ensure it meets the needs of the organisation, the IMG doctors and dentists and provide plans for sustainability and succession planning of the role.
Develop a working knowledge of IMGs across the organisation and foster formal and informal support networks.
Ensure educational, pastoral and career planning needs for all IMGs are addressed.
Devise and implement creative and supportive opportunities for IMGs across all specialties.
Establish strong links with Medical Workforce, PGCT, Specialty Tutors/Educational Leads, Medical Education and Clinical Leads across the organisation.
Represent IMGs at organisational workforce planning meetings.
Work with Clinical Leads and Medical Education to ensure equity of access to professional development for IMGs across the organisation.
Work with Clinical Leads to ensure adequate and effective supervisor time is resourced in line with existing clinical supervision guidance.
