Clinical Nurse Specialist Craniofacial Surgery

Job summary

The post holder is responsible for working in an interdisciplinary manner to provide effective care for children/adolescents with craniofacial conditions through the role of expert practitioner, role model and patient/parent advocate. Provide specialist knowledge to statutory and charitable organisations locally and nationally.

Main duties of the job

  • The post holder will provide clinical leadership, promote excellence in nursing practice and be able to work across organisational boundaries.
  • The post holder will provide a specialist nurse service to all children/adolescents (up to and including age of 16) and their families/carers who has been treated by the National Paediatric Craniofacial Service.
  • Lead role in conjunction with the other members of the multidisciplinary team in discharge planning process for this client group to ensure continuity of care during transition from hospital to community and liaise with community health, social services and education.
  • Provide clinical advice with regard to this client group to ward based staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Keep abreast of new developments
  • Develop effective working relationships with local, regional and national bodies in this field.
  • Patients are retained on active caseload for as long as required. Some will have repeat admissions for further intervention. Families may contact the service at any point months or years after initial engagement for further advice or information.

  • Degree/Diploma in HE in a healthcare related subject
  • Mentorship Course/SLAIP/Silver Assessors Course
  • Postgraduate neuroscience specialist training
