Job summary

An exciting opportunity to work as a Consultant Radiologist in the Department of Radiology has become available as a result of workforce expansion. The appointee will work within the Radiology Department of Birmingham Women's Hospital joining an existing establishment of 3 diagnostic consultant radiologists. This is a substantive full-time 10 PA post.

Main duties of the job

The post

The successful applicant should be trained in all aspects of diagnostic Gynaecological and Neonatal radiology. The successful applicant would be expected to participate in the multi-disciplinary meetings with existing consultant radiologists. The sub-specialist nature of the role is such that the successful candidate will need a broad knowledge base, and will be able to use various modalities in undertaking their role. Their job plan will reflect this but will also try to accommodate specialist interests, mindful of the existing needs within the department. The successful applicant must be prepared to work flexibly; whilst this is an appointment primarily for Birmingham Women's Hospital, there may be opportunity to enhance service development with cross-site working and experience opportunities. There is currently no on-call commitment with this post.

Job responsibilities

Teaching

The appointee will be expected to take part in the teaching commitment to the radiology trainees.

He/she will be expected to contribute to undergraduate medical student teaching as necessary and to play a full role in postgraduate medical education and the training of other relevant staff groups.

Audit

The post holder will be expected to participate in medical and clinical audit.

Clinical Governance

The appointee will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Clinical Governance structure developed by the Trust to monitor, maintain and develop the quality and effectiveness of care. The Trust is committed to the development of medical staff through individual appraisal. This will include audit of personal clinical practice as well as involvement in departmental / specialty reviews, attention to continuing professional development, meeting the Royal College of Radiologists requirements, awareness of professional standards and the responsibility to undertake safe and ethical clinical practice. Funding is available for approved study leave as defined in the Trusts study leave policy.

Cross-cover for clinical duties with colleagues

The appointee will be expected to provide cross cover for his/her colleagues during periods of leave.
