Job summary

We are looking for a compassionate, highly motivated individual who is passionate about being part of a team caring for children and families needing cancer treatment and support to join our team of Cancer Nurse Specialists. This role will co-ordinate and support the care of children, young people and their families across BWC.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Family Support Liaison Coordinator for Oncology is a patient facing role supporting all patients from the time of their diagnosis, throughout curative cancer treatment or their transition into palliative, end of life and bereavement care, ensuring the unique needs of the child and family come first. You will facilitate, empower, and enhance the patient experience through effective teamwork, working with the Cancer Nurse Specialist Team and the wider MDT. This is a unique role, which will require excellent communication skills, well developed organisational skills and an ability to be adaptive and flexible in your role to support the team, patients and families in all aspects of care delivery.

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ level 3/4 or diploma in recognised healthcare/ health service/ public sector working/ experience with and understanding and evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of working with children and families with a cancer diagnosis or life limiting diagnosis or experience in palliative and end of life care

Knowledge and nature of experience

Essential

  • Previous experience working with children, young people or adults and have an understanding of care and compassion during cancer care

Desirable

  • Previous experience working with children, young people or adults in cancer care, palliative care, end of life care or bereavement care

Analytical and Judgement skills

Essential

  • Be able to escalate problems when required and report back to supervising registered practitioner
  • Able to recognise limitations
  • Able to carry out instructions with diligence and accuracy, reporting back as required
  • Excellent verbal and listening communication skills
  • Able to work well in a team, work reliably and safely under indirect supervision
  • Be able to use initiative and common snese
  • Must have high level of self-motivation and desire to succeed
  • Able to organise own workload and use initiative and common sense
  • Able to use email and access internet without instruction
