Job summary

The ED orderly job is to support the Emergency Department in the provision of safe effective care to all patients.

The successful applicant will work within the Emergency Department, visiting other departments as part of their job role.

The will work alongside all Emergency Department staff in particularly the nursing and medical team.

Main duties of the job

o To ensure medical gas storerooms are adequately stocked by collecting additional medical gas cylinders from the main stores, rotating empty cylinders as required.o Assist in the safe and secure storage of medication across the unit.o Assist in ensuring the medication storage rooms remain clean and tidy, with medication stored appropriately.o Assist the delivery and restock of consumables supporting the Emergency Department storeso Assist in the removal and disposal of decommissioned equipment as requiredo To assist nursing staff in the movement of patients and equipment in the Emergency Departmento To assist nursing staff with the transportation of patients to/from ward areas/departments, ensuring that all equipment is returned to the Emergency Department in a timely manner.o To assist nursing staff with the safe movement of patients between cots, beds, chair and stretcher when required.o As directed by the housekeeping team place appropriate mattresses onto the Emergency Department beds and cots.o To prepare and set up bed spaceso To collect, store and return blood products to blood bank in accordance with local policyo Safely handle and transport specimens to appropriate destinations, in accordance with local policieso Assist with preparation of infection control packso Monitor, collect and deliver equipment to the medical engineering department that requires repair/maintenance/PAT Testing
