Job summary

Have you got experience in working with children and young people with mental health difficulties? Do you have an interest in the impact of early trauma on mental health? Then this could be the post for you!

We are looking for a compassionate, enthusiastic and innovative Senior Applied (Clinical / Counselling / Forensic) Psychologist to work closely with our small MDT in mental health services for Children in Care and Care Leavers (0-25 years) in Birmingham.

We work as part of a multidisciplinary team and we value our professional identity and career progression opportunities that develop the 4 pillars of key skills, namely our therapeutic expertise, leadership, education of others and service development within the CiC and Care Leavers Team and across Forward Thinking Birmingham.

These skills are nurtured and developed from the moment you join the team, through training and supervision of individual work and service development projects. We are innovative and creative and we are looking for others who would like to join the team.

Main duties of the job

You will support the development and delivery of the Children in Care (CiC) and Care Leavers pathway within the service and working with multi-agency partners.

You will support FTB colleagues to develop plans that understand the impact of early trauma, ongoing relational difficulties and support towards recovery. You will work with multi-agency colleagues to best meet the mental health needs for this cohort. You will liaise with FTB colleagues as well as CiC Nurses, Social Workers, Personal Advisors, Education, Housing, Residential and Foster Carers etc, to help address the complexity of needs for CiC and Care Leavers, particularly around risk and mental health. You will manage a small case load and co-work with members of the team, offering supervision / line management to junior staff.

This is a small (but growing!) and developing MDT and there will be lots of opportunities for innovation, professional development and making a difference.

We would be delighted to offer the role to the right candidate and this could be you. We will consider applications for Band 7-8a preceptorships. If you have any queries then please do not hesitate to contact Dr Usha Jayarajan, Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Clinical Lead - Children in Care and Care Leavers Team on 0121 333 8085 or usha.jayarajan@nhs.net If you are interested in split posts within FTB then please contact to discuss further.

We look forward to receiving your application.
