The Complications of Excess Weight Service at BirminghamChildren's Hospital is service commissioned by NHS England toprovidecomprehensiveassessment,treatmentand supporttochildrenand young people (CYP)living with excess weight across the West Midlands.Our multi-disciplinary team includes medical, nursing, social work, dietetic, psychology, physiotherapy & administration staff.

Due to increasing demand and expansion within the service, we have a vacancy for a Family Support Worker. We are therefore looking for a dynamic individual who has experience working withchildrenand families,andable to work autonomously as well as part of a team. Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide family and Youth Support as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team to CYP and families within the CEW (Complications of Excessive Weight) service. It is expectedthat the post holder will develop their knowledge and understanding of the complex nature and medical requirements in managing childhood obesity to facilitate the delivery of support work.

The post holder will be accountable to the Lead Nurse within Endocrinology and Diabetes.

A significant proportion of our patients live in areas of high socioeconomic deprivation. The post holder will assess all newly referred CYP and will attend MDT clinics for instant patient access. Families will receive social support, financial and benefits advice, parenting, behavioural andconflict management advice and support, and referral and signposting to appropriate community and social resources.

Working in the community setting and in the client's home, the Child Youth & Family Support Worker provides child management and parenting training, coaching, counselling and support services for children, youth and families experiencing social, behavioral and/or emotional challenges.

Whilst some knowledge of complications of excessive weight is desirable for this post, training will be provided in post.
