exciting opportunity within the radiology department at Birmingham Womens and
Childrens Hospital for a trainee sonographer to support the ultrasound service
across both sites.
The position is a 3-year fixed
term training post and on successful completion of the course we hope to employ
the successful candidate as an autonomous reporting sonographer.
Main duties of the job
The training post will be
for 3 years, and the trainee will undertake a structured programme of training
and assessment in clinical practice as well as completing a Post Graduate
Diploma in ultrasound at Birmingham City University (BCU). Please see the

The successful candidate
will have hands on clinical training in paediatric abdominal and renal
ultrasound in year one, completing a postgraduate certificate in medical
ultrasound.
Years two and three will
include consolidation of clinical skills in paediatric abdominal examinations,
and training in neonatal hips for developmental dysplasia, cranial ultrasound
and adult abdominal examinations across both the Womens and Childrens
Hospital sites.
In addition to obtaining
clinical skills in ultrasound imaging the trainee will be expected to develop
the necessary management and professional skills to fulfil this advanced
practitioner role.
On completion of the
training programme the post holder will play a key role in delivering the
ultrasound service across both sites. They will work towards becoming an
autonomous practitioner, undertaking paediatric and adult abdominal ultrasound
examinations including neonatal hips and cranial, and provide an independent
report.
