An exciting opportunity has
arisen in the West Midlands Regional Genomics Laboratory (WMRGL) for two
Genetic Technologists to support the Quality Manager and laboratory Leadership
Team in the maintenance and coordination of the Quality Management System.
The post
holders will work within West Midlands Regional Genomics Laboratory (WMRGL),
part of the Medicine Directorate of Birmingham Womens and Childrens NHS
Foundation Trust, based at Birmingham Women's Hospital. They will work with
staff across the department including members of Technical, Scientific and
Business Support teams.
The post
holder should be educated to degree level or equivalent in a biological
sciences subject with experience in a diagnostics laboratory, preferably in
genetics, and a keen interest in quality management, in particular experience
of working to BSI Standard ISO 15189:2012. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is
essential.
The post
holder will need to be able to analyse complex information and non-conformities
from multiple sources, and effectively communicate results of this analysis to
support maintenance and improvement of the QMS. The ability to plan over short,
medium and long-term timeframes is essential.
Main duties of the job
WMRGL
is based at Birmingham Womens and Childrens NHS FT
sitting within the Division of Medicine & Genetics alongside the West Midlands
Clinical Genetics Service and is the largest genomics facility
in the UK and lead provider for one of the seven Genomic Laboratory Hubs (GLH)
in England, the Central and South Genomic Laboratory Hub (C&S GLH).
The
C&S GLH is hosted by Birmingham Womens and Childrens NHS Foundation Trust
(BWC) and serves 11 million people across a large geography. Working in
partnership with four major acute Trusts and their Local Genomic Laboratories
(LGLs) the GLH covers the West Midlands, Oxford and Wessex areas. The C&S
GLH is commissioned by NHS England for the provision of all genomic testing for
the geography.
WMRGL
currently performs in excess of 70,000 tests per annum and employs over 300
scientific, technical and support staff in service delivery and research. The
laboratory is a UKAS accredited medical laboratory (no. 8176).
