Job summary
The
Smoke Free maternity support Worker (SFMSW) will provide individualised smoking
cessation support to pregnant and post-partum women receiving maternity care
across the Local Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) and to their partners
and/or close family members. Working with maternity services, the SCSW will
also promote wellbeing and healthy lifestyles by providing public health
information, advice, support, and brief interventions. The post holder will
have in depth-experience of healthy lifestyles, behavioural change, managing
clinics, have the ability to work both independently, autonomously and as part
of a larger team, to support the delivery of tangible results. The post holder
will have an understanding and experience of managing variable caseloads,
excellent communication skills in engaging with vulnerable women in a
culturally sensitive manner as well as being able to follow instructions and
work closely with the Smoke-Free team leader which is an essential element of
this post. There will be some occasional evening and weekend work involved.
Main duties of the job
You
will be allocated to one or more of the community midwife teams within
Birmingham as your clinic location, however, regular travel across the Local
Maternity and Neonatal System (LMNS) will be necessary to undertake the role.
The post holder will be directly responsible to the Smoke free Pregnancy Lead working as part of the Birmingham & Solihull Local Maternity
System and integrated closely with maternity services. The post will require
some occasional evening and weekend work. The Birmingham & Solihull United
Maternity & Newborn Partnership (Bump) is the Local Maternity and Neonatal
System (LMNS) across Birmingham & Solihull.
The Bump team is dedicated to supporting
maternity care across the LMNS, implementing the recommendations of Better
Births by delivering the National Maternity Improvement Programme, of which
