Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacy assistant to join our pharmacy team within the Clinical Trials Unit at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust.

The Clinical Trials Team are responsible for the dispensing of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) to patients in the trust. As part of this team you will be working alongside Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists in Clinical Trials as well as the larger department.

You will also participate in dispensary rotations to carrying out dispensing duties. This will include late night and weekend cover.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide support to the Pharmacy Clinical Trials team at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust. To perform a wide range of dispensing, ordering, receiving, processing patient returns and site file maintenance of Investigational Medicinal Products.
  • To carry out day to day tasks relating to the provision Clinical Trials, under the supervision of the lead pharmacy technician.
  • Support and maintain a safe, efficient timely and accurate service ensuring the required standards are met.
  • To participate in stock control management, identifying stock discrepancies, maintaining adequate levels of stock and preventing wastage of drugs due to expiry.
  • To use the current pharmacy computer system to record all issues, stock transfers and returns accurately and responsibly in order to maintain stock balances and promote efficient ordering and distribution.
  • Support the team with temperature monitoring, Sponsor visits, maintenance of shared clinical trials email account and clinical trials electronic diary.
