Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term (2 year) position as a Technical Training Manager for the Central & South (C&S) Genomic Laboratory Hub (GLH). Working under the direction of the Senior Training Manager, the post holder will work within the Education and Training (E+T) team, and will work collaboratively to produce key deliverables of Technical Training.
The post holder will have experience of Healthcare Science education, training, & assessment within the laboratory setting. They will have a strong, working knowledge of educational theory, and have proven leadership & educational experience to contribute to the GLH E+T agenda. The Technical Training Manager will be responsible for the operational delivery and co-ordination of technical training programmes, such as Apprenticeships (Level 4 and 6) and will aid with the implementation of Genetic Technologist Training. They will further support key laboratory functions around, core training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). This will include meeting the required UKAS quality standards and supporting service developments, as necessary.
The position will be based at WMRGL within Birmingham Women's Hospital. We welcome applications on a secondment basis (with current employer support) and will consider some element of remote working, though this opportunity does require a commitment to regular on-site attendance.
Main duties of the job
The Technical Training Manager will be required to strongly contribute to the key deliverables of Technologist training across all C&S laboratories.
The post holder will hold educational management responsibility for Birmingham-based staff on Apprenticeship programmes, and operational management for Technical training programmes. They will monitor performance and help develop professional knowledge, skills, and practice of all Technical staff. The post holder will be based in Birmingham but will be required to spend a proportionate amount of time supporting each of the partner laboratories.
The post-holder will be required to communicate complex technical, scientific and often sensitive information to colleagues within their department in both verbal and written forms.
The post holder should be educated to degree level or equivalent in a biological sciences subject with significant experience in a diagnostics laboratory, preferably in genetics. They must be able to prepare and produce concise communications to staff with experience of creating and giving presentations. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.
The post holder will be expected to manage their own workload often working to tight timescales. The post holder is required to observe and maintain a high standard of laboratory health, safety and risk procedures; and is required to work to departmental Standard Operating Procedures, and current professional standards.
