An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated, and experienced Clinical nurse Specialist to apply for a post within the urgent care pathway, based at Birmingham Children's Hospital.
The clinical nurse specialist will be skilled in carrying out specialist assessments of young people with complex mental health presentations and provide formulation and recommendations for therapeutic interventions including risk management. They will also have the opportunity to be involved in service development, audit, research and quality improvement projects.The role requires a highly skilled nurse who has exceptional skills in clinical assessment, multidisciplinary working, and devising robust risk management plans.
The aim of this pathway is to provide timely initial mental health assessment, screening and consultation with colleagues in an acute hospital setting. The role requires you to be able identify ongoing needs to support recovery and enable young people to achieve and enjoy independent and safe living in the community.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will be a member of the Multi-disciplinary Team and will carry continuing responsibility for the assessment, treatment and management of a complex patients. Where appropriate, they will be required to liaise with other internal and external agencies including the hubs, early intervention, inpatient, probation, police and specialist services, as well as the Mental Health Liaison Teams and the home treatment team across Providers.
- Linking with the Families of the referred young people as included in the assessment and on-going management of the cases. This will include the use of a range of approaches e.g. psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive and psychopharmological, as appropriate, within the overall framework of the multi- disciplinary team.
- Close working with colleagues in acute hospital settings to support the safe management of young people with complex emotional or mental health needs, ensuring that any comorbid physical health needs are managed concurrently and effectively.
