Higher Level Rotational Pharmacy Technician Band 5

Working across BCH & BWH sites

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to work at both Birmingham Women's and Birmingham Children's Hospital sites. The post holder should have experience of providing a ward based Pharmacy service, be an excellent communicator and committed to providing the best service for our patients and families. Main duties of the job

Main duties will include:

  • To Participate in the rotation to specialist areas and to wards at both BC & BW hospital sites
  • Participation in Medicines Management Services to wards across both sites, carrying out medicines reconciliation, assessing patients own drugs, ordering medication, counselling patients and facilitating timely discharge of patients
  • Preparing & second checking IV/ oral medicines
  • To support and participate in the dispensary and in other specialist areas duties such as ordering, dispensing and accuracy checking to maintain core skills
  • To support the department with KPI and CQUIN targets as required
  • To lead on Safe & Secure Storage audits & other audits
  • To lead on the training of new staff, rotational Pharmacy Technicians, Pre-registration Pharmacists and Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians
  • To support with service improvements across the department
  • Working in collaboration with teams across all sites.

Applicants will hold a valid BTEC & NVQ Level 3 Pharmaceutical Science Certificate and be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Services and BTEC (or equivalent)
  • Registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Accuracy Checking Technician Award

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Knowledge of data protection and patient/staff confidentiality
  • Understanding Patient's needs, enabling the delivery of a safe and effective service.

Desirable

  • Minimum 1 year post qualification experience
  • Medicines Management Experience providing ward based services
  • Experience of supervision and training other pharmacy staff
  • Experience of working in a hospital pharmacy
  • Experience or knowledge of Hospital electronic prescribing systems
  • Experience of training on new systems

Analytical and Judgement Skills

  • Ability to record data relevant to role.
  • Have problem solving skills with the ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands
  • Able to work under pressure and make decisions in situations where there may be a number of courses of action.
