Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be at the centre of ground-breaking, national research in mental health. You will need to be either a Consultant Psychiatrist, Psychologist Lead Nurse or other Allied Health professional and bring your clinical and research experience experience into supporting collaborative research alongside clinical colleagues within mental health services in FTB.

In utilising your clinical skills you will be responsible for assessing and contributing to the growth of research in the trust, taking on Principle Investigator roles and coordinating colleagues also training for these responsibilities. You will be at the forefront of promoting research activities centres on portfolio studies and trials. You will develop and utilise a working knowledge of and compliance with local, national and international research regulations.

Some previous research experience is essential however a comprehensive training/development programme will be available.

Main duties of the job

  1. Act as the Clinical Lead for Research for MHS and have a key role in delivering and supporting the BWC Research Strategy and MTCoE
  2. Ensure the highest standards of clinical research practice are maintained.
  3. Ensure FTB research activity fully involves service users and their families, at all stages of the research process.
  4. Work together with the FTB Operational Lead for Research in supporting the research delivery staff and the successful delivery of research, especially of NIHR CRN portfolio studies.
  5. Support the development of research projects and careers for MHS clinical staff.
  6. To work as a key member of the R&D Management Team to achieve the Trust's strategic research targets, ensuring the identification of future needs and opportunities, reflecting national strategies, trust priorities and local regional structures including NIHR (e.g. BHP, ICSs, CRNs, BRCs, AHSNs, ARCs etc).
  7. To work as a key member of the R&D Management Team to ensure that appropriate infrastructure is in place to enable the research teams to carry out their duties, and to support business planning cycles which inform requirement for investment or dis-investment.
  8. To act as deputy, where appropriate for the R&D Deputy Director FTB
