This Medical Simulation leadership position supports the strategic direction for existing and future work of Simulation at BWC NHS FT. We aim to develop a Simulation Strategy where we can build upon a national
reputation and track record for excellence in the design and application of simulation and associated learning technologies in healthcare.
The principle workstreams include an established portfolio of multi-professional education, training and workforce development programmes, which run concurrently with a strong project -driven approach to
the application of human factors within prioritised areas of patient safety, quality improvement and systems transformation.
The position is supported by a core simulation team comprising of a senior simulation lead, facilitator, technician and an administrator to support the key objectives and desired outcomes.
Main duties of the job
The lead on the education of simulation-based activities; ensuring they are designed and delivered within the specialised simulation centre environment, or through planned 'in situ' exercises that take place within different clinical settings according to local service requirements. These activities can support competency attainment in technical and procedural skills, and usually include a strong focus on development of associated 'nontechnical' skills such as clinical leadership and teamwork, situational awareness and decision-making, and effective communication skills for different circumstances e.g. patient safety, escalating concerns within teams, managing conflict, providing individual feedback or debriefing teams. Particular emphasis is paid to how these skills and behaviours can be transferred into practice to support improvements in individual or team performance.
