We
are working hard to improve and deliver neurodevelopmental and mental health
services for young people in the city of Birmingham and are seeking a Clinical
Psychologist to join our team. We welcome applications
from those at band 6 who are looking to develop their skills in this specialist
area.
The
Autism Assessment Team expanded in 2021 as a result of new investment targeted
at improving the neurodevelopmental offer across Birmingham. We are a multi-disciplinary team comprised of
Clinical Psychology, Psychiatry, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy.
We are keen to hear from Speech and
Language Therapists who are enthusiastic and creative in their approach to
service delivery and committed to improving the lives of neurodiverse young
people. There is a commitment in
Birmingham to enhance service provision for this complex population and we are
excited to hear from people who want to join us on our journey to improve
services.
The team
is part of Forward Thinking Birmingham and offers assessment and post
diagnostic support to young people up to the age of 25 who have co-occurring
mental health difficulties.
Main duties of the job
The Team
offers specialist assessment, and pre/post Autism diagnostic input in the
mental health service. The post holder
will contribute to the ongoing development of the team that will ensure all
young people accessing mental health services have access to a timely,
evidence-based assessment, as well as inform post diagnostic input to ensure
young peoples experience is high quality and appropriate to guide their care
going forwards. The post holder will
have the opportunity to work alongside multi-disciplinary colleagues in mental
health teams offering specialist consultation and advice to inform care planning
and intervention for neurodiverse young people, as well as join Community
Paediatric colleagues to consider the assessment needs of younger children with
complex presentations.
The
teams use a range of assessment skills, including formal psychometric tests,
diagnostic assessments (such as the ADOS 2, DISCO, ADI, Sensory assessments),
interviews with parent/carer(s) and observations across settings, to inform the
assessment and diagnostic process as well as the planning and provision of
interventions. The post holder will be
offered training in assessment tools required for the role and be supported in
the implementation of these by existing team members to support skill
development. Specialist supervision will
be offered by experienced occupational therapists within the mental health
division as well as from colleagues from clinical psychology and psychiatry.
