Job summary

We are expanding our Respiratory Team and have an exciting new opportunity for a Family Support Worker (Band 4).

This is an innovative role at Birmingham Children's Hospital which will be working closely with a range of professionals, and will be supported by an experienced, well-established team.

This role may suit someone who is seeking a new fixed term contract or a potential secondment opportunity within the Trust / NHS.

Main duties of the job

The Respiratory Team care for patients with various Respiratory conditions. A significant proportion of the patients live in areas of high socioeconomic deprivation.A key part of the Family Support Worker role will be to guide and support the families in areas such as; social care support, referrals, financial/ benefits advice, along with signposting to appropriate community and social resources.The post holder will have the opportunity to network with other Family Support Workers and Social Workers across our NHS Trust.Previous experience in support work and advising on social care, referrals etc. is desirable. It is essential to have a child health, social care or equivalent and relevant qualification.

The successful candidate will work 37.5 hours across 5 or 4 days (minimum) per week., (Monday - Friday). There will be a requirement for some onsite working during clinic days and to attend ad-hoc home visits. There is also the potential for home working, once trained in the post, which can be discussed at interview stage.
