Job summary
The Royal Marsden Hospital is one of Europe's largest Oncology centre and was the world's first hospital dedicated to cancer research, diagnosis, treatment and education, with sites in Chelsea, Sutton and Cavendish Square. The Diagnostic Imaging service provides an essential service to the Trust and includes CT (we are currently installing two photon counting scanners at the Chelsea site), MRI (1.5T and 3T), mammography, interventional radiology, ultrasound, general x-ray and fluoroscopy.We are currently inviting applications from enthusiastic diagnostic radiographers for a practice educator role. Applicants will preferably have significant post graduate experience in radiology, education and development of registered and unregistered healthcare professionals. The successful candidate will have clinical skills within x-ray and CT and/or MRI. A postgraduate qualification and/or further education within practice education/mentoring is desirable.The successful candidate will facilitate learning and continuing development of all registered and unregistered healthcare professionals within the imaging department, ensuring that education is responsive to service developments and relevant frameworks.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as a senior radiographer part of the multi-disciplinary team. The postholder will work closely with imaging leads, to deliver high-quality training and development activities across the imaging modalities, in accordance with the imaging department strategy.The postholder is required to be on site five days per week Monday to Friday (core hours), and requires rotation between all sites (Chelsea, Sutton and Cavendish Square).The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their approach and support learners in the workplace at all levels of practice, as well as aligning to the education and training requirements of The Quality Standard for Imaging Quality Mark.The post holder will provide expertise within practice education with skills that align with the radiographer education and career framework practice educator role.

1.1 Clinical
To ensure protocols and standards are maintained and improved to produce best diagnostic information and patient care. To perform imaging examinations as an operator under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations. To follow the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) guidelines, local rules and the departmental imaging guidelines and standard operating procedures. To be competent within designated areas of imaging and support others. Identify less optimal areas of practice and collaborate with imaging leads to improve (for example workflow, image optimisation, alignment with national, trust and local policies, guidance and procedures). To comply with accurate patient identification procedures To ensure referrals are justified correctly and booked in a timely manner. To give advice where appropriate on the validity of requested examinations. To be aware of Radiation safety when undertaking radiological examinations and ensure the safety and protection of patients, staff and carers are adhered to. To perform standard equipment Quality Assurance (QA), record results accurately and alert the Superintendent radiographer/medical physics as required. To ensure fault reporting and equipment documentation is completed and maintained where required and ensure staff are aware of this documentation.
