Interventional Radiology Nurse (Band 6 x 3) - Sutton sitePart-time @17 hours/weekFollowing the expansion of our Interventional Radiology (IR) service, we are excited to build our pioneer IR nursing workforce at the new Royal Marsden IR Unit in Sutton.As we establish this new service, we are accepting applications from nurses who are currently working independently in IR or from other clinical areas such endoscopy, cath lab, theatres, or ICU where you can evidence transferrable skills that are essential to the role.Successful applicants will be expected to rotate through the different clinical areas within IR and demonstrate the required clinical skills, including:o Assisting or scrubbing in the procedure roomo Providing nurse led conscious sedationo Caring for patients in Stage 1 recoveryShifts are allocated according to service needs every Tuesday and Thursday:o Procedure Room / Sedation RN: 08:00-17:00 or 08:30-17:30o Recovery RN: 09:00-18:00 or 09:30-18:30This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future operation of the service and gain experience in opening a new clinical unit.Thank you for taking the time to submit your application. Main duties of the job

  • The post-holder will have responsibility for the clinical nursing care of patients attending the Diagnostic Imaging Department. This includes rotating within all disciplines of interventional radiology nursing as outlined in this job description.
  • The post-holder will assess the needs of patients and evaluate appropriate care within the department ensuring that procedures are carried out within Trust policies and procedures. The post-holder will meet the requirements of the NMC's Code of Conduct and Scope of Professional Practice, with particular reference to personal accountability for nursing duties undertaken.
  • The post-holder will work with other members of the internal and external multidisciplinary team, to ensure the delivery of a safe, efficient and effective service.

  • Current or recent IR/endoscopy/Cath lab/theatres/ICU experience
  • Competent in intravenous medication administration
  • Travel to Chelsea to complete competency assessments and maintaining IR competencies
  • Able to wear lead gowns as required
  • Able to stand continuously for long periods of time (e.g. 45-60 mins at a time)
  • Safely organise / lead / co-ordinate a procedure list

Desirable

  • Experience in scrubbing, assisting during procedures, providing nurse-led conscious sedation and stage 1 recovery post sedation
  • Experience in running nurse led pre-assessment clinics
  • Completed the nurse-led sedation competencies
  • Experience in deputising for the unit manager
