Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Biomedical Scientist Section Lead, with good interpersonal skills and a committed team worker to join the Cellular Pathology department, located at the Chelsea site of The Royal Marsden Hospital.

The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management of the Main Laboratory and the Cellular Pathology Genomic Centre (CPGC).Attention to detail is important and the post holder must be able to work to high standards, following defined protocols and assist in the production of accurate & high quality analytical results for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

This is a very high profile department working to demanding turnaround times and providing services both to Royal Marsden Clinical teams as well as acting as a reference centre for other hospitals in the UK and offering expert opinions to institutions worldwide.

Applicants must have Degree and MSc in Biomedical science or equivalent, HCPC registration and IBMS membership. This is full time post. The Trust encourages and supports continuing professional and personal development and Pathology runs a CPD Club

Main duties of the job

o The post holder will be an experienced HCPC registered biomedical scientist, with extensive knowledge in histopathology.o The post holder will be responsible for the day to day management of the Main Laboratory. Coordinating the delivery of service, including training of staff, advanced troubleshooting, equipment management and stock control.o The post holder will perform pre-analytical and analytical procedures such as microtomy and coordinate tumour assessment for the sample preparation for downstream genetic testing.o They will perform accredited specialised techniques such as immunohistochemistry and OSNA.o They will perform quality control assessment of stained slides and /or digital pathology images.
