Job summary

Markus Ward is an 8-bed, Private Patient medical oncology unit specializing in the delivery of inpatient chemotherapy and the management of cancer-related symptoms. We pride ourselves on offering personalized care to our patients, ensuring their comfort and well-being throughout all stages of their cancer journey. We care for patients who are acutely unwell, as well as those receiving palliative and end of life care.

We are looking for an experienced Band 3 Healthcare Support Worker to join our team and provide high quality, patient care. If you are passionate about cancer care and wish to work within a supportive team, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job

To carry out in a responsible and efficient way, the nursing care for patients which has been drawn up in conjunction with the co-ordinator of the shift.To demonstrate the ability to develop a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the different treatment modalities.As an integral member of the nursing teamwork with team members to ensure the maintenance of an efficient, safe, clean and pleasant environment for all patients.

Monitoring and recording patients vital signs (including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, oxygen saturation) and reporting any abnormal results to registered nursing staff.

Performing venepuncture and cannulation after training and assessment of competency.

Demonstrates an understanding of infection control issues including attendance at mandatory training; an understanding of policy and procedure and accept responsibility for their own infection control practice and a willingness to challenge others practice.

Assisting nursing and medical staff where required with various clinical procedures, as delegated appropriately by a registered nurse.

To promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, visitors and staff.

To assist with any local or Trust initiatives to ensure the continuous improvement of the quality of services and safeguarding of high standards of care.

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience of working in a healthcare setting.

Desirable

  • NVQ in Health and Social Care Level 2, working towards Level 3.

Skills Abilities/knowledge

Essential

  • Clinical skills (e.g. phlebotomy etc.)
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to remain calm and demonstrate tact and diplomacy whilst under pressure
  • Self-motivated to work under minimal supervision
  • Awareness of health and safety at work (e.g. Manual Handling skills, Infection Control measures)

Desirable

  • Understanding of working with patients who are critically and chronically ill

Other

  • Flexibility to meet the needs of the service (e.g. shift work)
