The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is one of the leading cancer centres in the world and has an international reputation for the care and treatment it provides. The Royal Marsden serves a local, regional, national, and international population from two hospital sites, Chelsea, and Sutton.

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed Band 5 staff nurse to join our nursing team to provide expert care and support our patients in the Outpatients department, at the Sutton site. The department manages multi-speciality medical oncology clinics including chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The phlebotomy and Line Access (Central venous access devices) service is also run by the Outpatient team.

The post holder will work in the outpatient department in the new cancer centre at Sutton. This centre is open Monday-Friday 08.00 - 20.00There are many new and exciting innovative opportunities for a Band 5 nurse within the Royal Marsden Trust. This is a great opportunity to develop your existing skills and knowledge, but also to learn new one's in caring for cancer patients at all points of their cancer pathway. Main duties of the job

To plan, document, deliver and evaluate evidence-based nursing care for patients in a responsible and efficient way, which has been drawn up in conjunction with the co-ordinator of the shift

To develop a greater awareness and understanding of the needs of patients with cancer and the different treatment modalities administered within the unit.

To develop an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of managing a shift with the guidance of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse.

To complete the first level assessment of the patients needs to gain an understanding of the physiological, psycho-social, spiritual and cultural needs of the patients with cancer and their families and to develop a positive, realistic and supportive attitude to ensure that the needs of the patient and family are met.

To assist with teaching patients in preparation for investigations, treatment and home care

To be aware of the side effects of any treatment in progress, and adopt a problem-solving approach to minimise the potentially adverse reactions.

The successful candidate will be a qualified Staff Nurse with at least a years experience in an acute hospital setting. We are looking for someone who is flexible, a good team player with a real commitment to providing good quality patient care. Experience of working in a clinic setting would be an advantage but is not essential.
