Junior GI Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our specialist nursing team at the Chelsea site and cover at the other sites if needed. This exciting role provides support across the colorectal surgical pathway and cross-cover with the upper GI surgical pathway.The Junior GI Surgical CNS will deliver expert, compassionate, and patient-centred care to individuals with complex gastrointestinal conditions and their families. Working across inpatient and outpatient settings, you will ensure high-quality specialist support is provided from diagnosis through surgery and beyond, maintaining continuity of care at every stage of the patient journey.As a vital member of the surgical multidisciplinary team and with the support of the band 7 GI surgical CNSs, you will:o Provide assessment, symptom management, and holistic support for patients undergoing those surgeries.o Contribute to patient education and enhanced recovery pathways.o Coordinate care to ensure safe, efficient, and timely surgical pathways.o Actively contribute to service development, pathway redesign, and quality improvement initiatives.o Deliver education and support to patients, families, and colleagues across the wider surgical team.o Provide specialist input and continuity of care, supporting timely diagnostics, patient information, and pathway management.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of the MDT, the post holder will: o Deliver expert assessment, management, and support for patients and their families. o Act as a patient advocate, providing education, advice, and information to support informed decision-making and self-management. o Participate in nurse-led initiatives, contributing to service development, clinical governance, and quality improvement to ensure safe, high-quality pathways of care. o Work autonomously within professional boundaries while collaborating closely with consultants, allied health professionals, and the wider MDT to ensure seamless coordination and communication. o Support patients and their families with empathy and consistency, promoting a holistic approach to care. o Act as a positive role model, supporting the induction and development of junior colleagues and promoting best nursing practice.
