An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fixed term junior sister posting, to join our friendly and energetic team on Kennaway ward.Kennaway ward is a 11-bed inpatient adult ward caring for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, and symptom control as part of their cancer journey. We also have a 3 bedded surgical day unit which runs 5 days a week offering day case surgery.The successful candidate will require excellent interpersonal and clinical skills and enjoy working as part of a team. You will be required to act as a role model for junior members of the team, ensuring care is delivered to a high standard in line with the values of the trust, and supporting them in their own professional development. Whilst also assuming managerial responsibilities for co-ordination of shifts, supporting the Ward Sister with the management of staff, auditing, incident reporting and be actively involved in recruitment and developing skills as a leader within the Trust.Our ward commitment is to meet the Trust's goals of excellence in caring for our patients, their families and friends with professionalism, respect and dignity. Main duties of the job

1.1. To assist the ward manager of Kennaway Ward in creating and maintaining a safe, therapeuticclinical environment for all patients and their families who come to the area. The post-holder willwork with the ward manager to co-ordinate all functions and activities to ensure a smooth runningservice to patients and their families.1.2. To assist the ward manager in managing resources within the clinical area in a cost effective way.This includes maintaining and monitoring equipment and being proactive in managing staff rostersto minimise the use of temporary staffing1.3. To assist in providing strong proactive clinical leadership of the nursing and support workers thatis motivating, supportive and sets clear boundaries resulting in high quality safe patient care. Thepost-holder will deputise for the ward manager and co-ordinate the nursing teams by liaising withthe senior staff nurses and clerical staff to ensure continuity of care for patients and on-goingmanagerial support for staff.1.4. To work with the ward manager to provide a clinical learning environment that enables nursing staffto develop professionally and promotes the use of evidence in practice.
