We are looking for an HCPC-registered Senior Clinical Scientist to join our Clinical Genomics team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, based in Sutton. This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the forefront of molecular diagnostics in a world-renowned centre of excellence.

The Clinical Genomics laboratory at the prestigious Royal Marsden is at the forefront of innovation and research in the North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub. As one of the seven national Genomic Laboratory Hubs in England, we're leading the way in Cancer Genomic testing.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will offer a high level of scientific and clinical knowledge, expertise and skill for the provision of a high quality and efficient service in the field of Clinical Genomics. They will be responsible for the variant interpretation and reporting of specialised clinical genomics investigations in haematological and solid tumours, as well as reporting whole genome sequencing results. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the provision of a timely and efficient Clinical Genomics service. They will be expected to lead in their designated area in the development, validation, including the design and implementation of clinical NGS and digital PCR protocols for personalised cancer medicine. Other key activities include monitoring and reporting key performance indicators, training staff in variant interpretation and reporting complex NGS results and supervision of staff, as well as contributing to the quality management of the department, to ensure continuity of service at all times and compliance with professional standards. There will be regular occasions when the post holder takes sole responsibility for laboratory work. The post will involve integrated working with the translational team of the department.

  • MSc/PhD or equivalent in molecular diagnostics/genetics
  • Evidence of CPD and relevant training

Experience

  • Significant post-registration experience in molecular diagnostics/genetics
  • Experience in variant interpretation (germline & somatic)
  • Experience with NGS data analysis
  • Experience writing and authorising clinical reports
  • Knowledge of ISO 15189, IQA/EQA and audit processes

Desirable

  • Senior-level experience in a clinical diagnostic lab
