Job summary

We are delighted to be recruiting for oncology pharmacists to work as part of our Oncology Pharmacy team at The Royal Marsden. This is an ideal opportunity for a pharmacist looking to specialise in cancer treatments and to gain experience working in a world-leading cancer centre. You will be supported in gaining focused training in specific tumour types under the guidance of our specialist pharmacists and the wider MDT. You will also be supported in attaining your independent prescribing qualification, once you have gained the necessary experience, as well as the opportunity to develop your research, education, and management skills.

This role is key to delivering a high-quality clinical pharmacy service which encompasses the medical day unit and outpatient clinics, as well as out-of-hospital SACT delivery and administration. This post will be supporting the multidisciplinary team through regular attendance of outpatient clinics, working with key stakeholders within pharmacy, nursing and medicine to promote timely delivery of SACT and to continually improve outcomes for our patients.

Main duties of the job

Provide operational support to the Oncology Pharmacy Team across the three hospital sites on a day-to-day basis by actively participating in the clinical pharmacy service.

Provide support to the multidisciplinary team through attendance of outpatient clinics to ensure safe, effective, and timely delivery of Systemic Anticancer Therapy (SACT).

Provide a clinical pharmacy service to patients by accurately clinically screening/reviewing prescriptions, ensuring the safe, effective, legal, and appropriate use of SACT and non-SACT medicines within an allocated clinical unit

To support the development of high-quality clinical pharmacy services, improvement of patient outcomes and experience within the inpatient and outpatient settings across the Trust.

To provide prescribing pharmacist support to outpatient oncology clinics (once qualified), reviewing patients prior to SACT treatment and prescribing SACT/supportive medicines as appropriate.

  • MSc/ Diploma Pharmacy Practice or equivalent

Desirable

  • Registered non-medical prescriber or willing to work towards this qualification

Experience

  • Post registration NHS hospital experience

  • Clinical audit and quality/service improvement projects

  • Oncology/Haematology Pharmacy experience
  • Experience of delivering education & training to staff and students
