Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist - Late Effects

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join our GI Late Effects team as a lead Clinical Nurse Specialist. This team is led by a consultant gastroenterologist alongside clinical fellows, a nurse consultant and specialist dieticians to support patients with complex GI symptoms related to their cancer treatment.

The role would involve assessing patients in the outpatient clinic setting (both NHS and private), arranging relevant investigations and reviewing results and treatment plans accordingly. You will also work alongside the colorectal CNS to triage and assess patients referred to the colorectal service with suspected cancer symptoms and arrange investigations and ongoing management accordingly. You will also act as the patients key contact in the late effects service and maintain the vision of the Royal Marsden.

Main duties of the job

  • Clinical leadership to the nursing teams, maintaining credibility through practice and provide a high quality and safe patient service, which exceeds patient expectations.
  • Routine management of patients with long term effects of their cancer treatment
  • Using advanced clinical decision making and assessment skills, prompt treatment plans or referrals will be initiated to effectively manage acute and chronic cancer-related complications and/or toxicities from systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT), supportive therapies and/or radiotherapy.
  • Support the colorectal CNS with triaging "two week wait" patients and running the telephone triage clinics.
  • Telephone triage of patients reporting side-effects / complications.
  • Booking of routine and emergency investigations.

  • Excellent understanding and experience in the recognition and management of ongoing oncological conditions.
