Job summary
The Centre for Urgent Care (CUC) Ward Clerk provides clerical service for staff, patients and relatives attending the unit. This is a pivotal role and you will be part of a multidisciplinary team. CUC aims to provide rapid assessment of emergency cancer admissions who present with acute symptoms of their disease and/or treatment, enabling prompt initiation of treatment. Welcoming and directing patients appropriately as they arrive on the unit is a key task within this role. The post holder will be working closely with the CUC nursing staff, maintaining a high level of communication between the unit, medical staff and allied health care professionals. Administrative support for clerical staff working within the Acute Oncology Service and Royal Marsden Macmillan Hotline will also be required to ensure a seamless service. Managing the filing system and keeping the booking system up to date and accurately ensures data is captured correctly for audit purposes. A professional and caring attitude is essential to maintain patients' dignity and ensure confidentiality is upheld.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of the unit is to provide a safe space for certain elective procedure to be performed in addition to providing an area for patients to be reviewed and treated when they become unwell as a result of their cancer or anticancer treatment.The CUC receptionist/ clerk will be responsible for providing clerical support for the unit, in addition to coordinating patient activity and certain elective treatment pathways.The receptionist/ clerk must maintain a high level of communication with the nursing, medical, allied healthcare professionals and administrative teams, as well as Royal Marsden(RM)patients and their families.The role is demanding and requires an individual with good attention to detail,who is thorough and can robustly deal with any issues. A professional and caring attitude is also essential, and patient confidentiality and dignity must be maintained.The post holder will work closely with the CUC Administrator Team Lean and CUC Sister / Charge nurse to ensure the unit is run efficiently and smoothly
