Job summary

We are looking for an experienced research scientist to work in the Royal Marsden Clinical Genomics team, supporting clinical diagnostics and translational research projects. The post-holder will work with a highly experienced team of scientists to analyse and report samples mainly for a prostate cancer clinical study entitled "STAMPEDE". This project will run until 2029 and the successful candidate will be appointed on a 12-month fixed term contract in the first instance with potential extension for the lifetime of the project. The work will take place in the Clinical Genomics Translational Research Laboratory at The BRC Centre for Molecular Pathology at The Royal Marsden NHS FT and The Institute of Cancer Research in Sutton.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure that clinical trial requests are met according to agreed policies on availability of tests and priorities.
  • Monitor pathway from sample receipt to reporting for STAMPEDE trial.
  • Ensure that work is carried out in line with Standard Operating Procedures and Departmental policy.

The post holder will contribute to service development and analysis, including the design and implementation of genomic protocols for personalised medicine using high throughput sequence analysis. They will implement DNA and RNA sequencing on both Illumina and Nanopore platforms, whole genome sequencing and circulating tumour DNA sequencing in a clinically-accredited laboratory to clinically specified turnaround times. The post holder will liaise with BRC researchers and their collaborators at local and national levels, clinical trials unit staff, clinicians, oncologists and histopathologists and will be responsible for delivering a high quality molecular diagnostic service supporting clinical trials and associated research projects across a wide range of cancers.
