Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Biobank Operations Manager to join our friendly team. The successful applicant will have extensive experience within a Biobank or research lab environment and be confident in all aspects of sample management. Experience of managing staff and oversight of facilities and equipment is essential. Excellent interpersonal, motivational and communication skills are required for this role. The post will be cross-site (Chelsea and Sutton)

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the Biobank team working within Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and our Academic partner Institute of Cancer Research at both Chelsea and Sutton sites.
  • Ensure the seamless delivery of the Biobank areas of work, with oversight and management of members of staff within the department across both sites.
  • Provide leadership, drive, and innovative solutions to maintain governance support in the department and promote access to human tissue for research.
  • Work directly with senior management to aid the Biobank Manager to design, develop and deliver the long-term strategy of the biobank to enhance governance and actively seek collaborations.
  • Ensuring the collection of human samples is undertaken in accordance with the Human Tissue Act (HTA), and proactively support staff to progress their responsibility within the Biobank.

  • Responsible for the data and quality management of all data under the biobank, in accordance with GCP, IG and QA guidelines and ongoing quality control procedures.

Education/Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent, with ongoing development
  • Understanding of HTA , ethics and consent requirements for biobanks

Desirable

  • MSc or higher specialist diploma or certification relating to lab management or sample handling would be an advantage.

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience of working in one of more of the areas of research tissue banking, tissue based study hosting/sample management and lab management
  • Able to write/review SOPs and documents
  • Able to perform advanced training
  • Ability to manage senior laboratory staff on a daily basis and oversight of all laboratory practices
  • Able to work to deadlines
  • Proven ability to organise team's work plans, schedules & deadlines
  • Ability to perform and analyse simple audits
  • Ability to take specific responsibilities in an area of defined specialist knowledge
  • Able to deal with advanced trouble shooting in specialist area

  • Previous experience of working in LN2 facilities
