Job summary

Applications are invited for Consultant Uro-Oncologist to join the Urology Unit multidisciplinary team at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, Sutton. The Royal Marsden's urology service is well regarded as of the UK's most comprehensive cancer providers with well-established services at both secondary and tertiary levels.

This post will support clinical activity on the Royal Marsden Sutton site and our practice at Kingston Hospital and applicants are invited with a background in clinical oncology.

The service treats around 1000 patients per year, with around 550 radical prostate treatments conducted annually. Patients with metastatic disease are cared for, using multiple lines of systemic therapy. The clinical practice is wide ranging and includes complex radiotherapy planning, palliative radiotherapy, SBRT, MR-guided radiotherapy, palliative chemotherapy, androgen-targeted therapies and radioisotopes for prostate cancer.

The successful candidate will work with the service to shape the needs of the future workforce. The key aim of this post will be to work together with the existing Consultant team to deliver a high quality clinical service.

Applicants should be eligible for full registration with the General Medical Council and have Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists or hold equivalent qualifications.

Main duties of the job

This post will support the treatment of prostate and bladder patients under the care of the uro-oncology team in Sutton and Kingston.

Depending on the applicant's experience the post can align to those with either clinical or medical oncology training.

Around 1000 patients are referred to the Sutton uro-oncology team per year, with around 550 radical prostate treatments conducted annually. The practice is wide ranging and includes complex radiotherapy planning, palliative radiotherapy, SBRT, adaptive and MR-guided radiotherapy, palliative chemotherapy, androgen-targeted therapies and radioisotopes for prostate cancer and chemo- and immunotherapy for bladder cancer. Participation in clinical trials is expected.

The post holder will join a 1 in 3 rota participating in consultant ward round cover for our Sutton site, providing consultant review of uro-oncology inpatients. The exact configuration of ward cover will be delineated between the 3 consultants, with attention to the experience and skill set of the successful candidate.
