Job summary

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is a specialist oncology centre split across 3 sites: two in London and one in Sutton, Surrey. We now have a fixed term (until 01.03.2025) vacancy for an enthusiastic, experienced and highly-capable Biomedical Scientist to work in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion laboratory in Chelsea. The department processes approximately 300 haematology samples at the Chelsea site daily.Applications are invited for a BMS with specialist knowledge of Haematology and Blood Transfusion. As a member of the departmental team, you will process samples, maintain complex analytical instruments, validate clinical results and deliver a high quality, patient focussed service.The laboratories are open for routine work between the hours of 0800 and midnight on weekdays and are currently equipped with Sysmex and Biorad analysers. The department also operates a late shift pattern from 1600hr to midnight and thereafter an on-call service on weekdays and 24hrs on call service at the weekend which you will be required to participate in.

Applicants must have experience working in a routine Haematology and Blood Transfusion Laboratory and must be HCPC registered. The department carries full ISO15189 Accreditation. CPD is actively encouraged.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for carrying out analytical work. The post holder will rotate through all sections of the department. The key working relationships will be with staff in Haematology, but the post holder will be expected to liaise with staff throughout pathology and the Trust. There will be frequent occasions when the post holder takes sole responsibility for work, for example when no senior is present.
