Job summary

The Royal Marsden has a vital role in championing change and improving cancer care through research and innovation, education, and leading-edge practice. As part of the department expansion, an opportunity has arisen for an HCPC state registered Senior Clinical Scientist to join the Clinical Genomics department to lead the delivery of our ctDNA Marsden360 workflow, test developed in collaboration with Guardant Health (https://www.royalmarsden.nhs.uk/royal-marsden-partnership-create-state-art-house-liquid-biopsy-testing-facility). The Clinical Genomics laboratory at the Royal Marsden is part of the North Thames Genomic Laboratory Hub (NT GLH), one of seven national Genomic Laboratory Hubs offering Cancer Genomic testing in England.

We seek an enthusiastic, self-motivated Clinical Scientist to contribute to the provision of a timely and efficient Service. You would be joining a dynamic team of clinical scientists, pre-registered scientists and genomics analysts. Good communication, team working, and supervisory skills are essential. The ideal candidate will have considerable experience in molecular diagnostics service delivery and have a sound understanding of molecular techniques--experience in High throughput sequencing technologies and analysis and variant interpretation is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will offer a high level of scientific and clinical knowledge, expertise, and skill to provide a high-quality and efficient service in Clinical Genomics. They will be responsible for the variant interpretation and reporting of specialised clinical genomics investigations in haematological and solid tumours and for reporting whole genome sequencing results.

They will be expected to lead and develop the ctDNA section, including designing and implementing new tests for personalised cancer medicine. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the provision of a timely and efficient Clinical Genomics service.

Other key activities include monitoring and reporting key performance indicators, training staff in variant interpretation and reporting complex WGS/NGS results and supervision of staff, as well as contributing to the quality management of the department to ensure continuity of service and compliance with professional standards. The post will involve integrated work with the translational team of the department.
