Job summary
The postholder will be based at the ICR and The Royal Marsden, primarily in Chelsea. The post is a fully funded for a PhD. This is a translational research post and the candidate will be expected to register for a PhD at ICR. Clinical commitments will include weekly head and neck Research clinics. For trainees in clinical oncology there will be opportunities to perform radiotherapy planning to keep up their skills. The research will involve analysis of tissue and blood samples that have been collected from patients undergoing radical treatment (CRT) for HNSCC.
Main duties of the job
The post is primarily laboratory based at the ICR in Chelsea.
Lab duties involve- The required training will be provided but some lab experience will be desirable.
- Nucleic acid (DNA and RNA) extraction from formalin fixed tissue (FFPE), buffy coats and plasma using widely used kits.
- Library preparation for TCR and cHPV-DNA sequencing on the relevant platform.
- Software programming in R and python for bioinformatics analysis. Using bioinformatics tools such as BEDtools and SAMtools.
- Statistical analyses using parametric and non- parametric tests for comparison between groups, correlation coefficients and multivariate analyses.
Clinical Duties
One Out-patient clinic per week in the head and neck, primarily looking after patients on clinical trials of novel systemic therapies including immunotherapy.
