Job summary

An opportunity has arisen at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in Sutton for a Technician, Aseptic Services or GPhC registered Pharmacy Technician to work on a permanent basis within the Pharmacy Aseptic Services Unit at Sutton. The products supplied by the aseptic unit are compounded in house or outsourced and include cytotoxic, Clinical Trials and Gene Therapy. We supply these products to our NHS and Private wards and treatment areas including haematology and clinical trials.

The successful candidate will receive full training and will have the opportunity to develop in their role and career. The post provides support to the Deputy Chief and Senior Technicians in carrying out operational duties provided by the aseptic services team. This will include deputising for Senior Technicians where appropriate.

Previous significant experience of working in and compounding in a hospital or industry aseptic unit is essential if applying as a non-registered technician.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Technician, Aseptic Services you will possess excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills. In addition, good teamwork, flexibility, self-motivation and an ability to work under pressure are essential.

Main duties of the job

  • Gain in depth knowledge and skill in the handling, compounding and use of cytotoxic drugs.
  • Gain experience in the handling, compounding and use of clinical trials prepared at the Trust and undertake Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training
  • Gain experience in the maintenance of Aseptic facilities as defined in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
  • Support the provision of robust, efficient stock control of medicines, IV fluids, containers etc. ensuring correct storage and rotation of drugs. Become trained in and follow all procedures for stock ordering, distribution and stock control. Undertake daily stock checks and submit to Senior staff.
