Job summary
This exciting and innovative fixed term contract is looking for a dedicated, motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join the Senior Adult Oncology Programme. A multidisciplinary approach to the older adult with cancer is a gold standard for the management of these patients. The Senior Adult Oncology Programme (SAOP) was developed at The Royal Marsden to personalise their care and improve outcomes, following their cancer treatment. This is a wonderful opportunity to work closely with Dietetic, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy colleagues providing personalised care to this group of patients. It also involves close liason with the rest of the adult SLT team in Sutton and opportunities for instrumental assessments. . You may have some acute experience be keen to transfer your knowledge to the oncology caseload. The post holder will be well supported by the RMH SLT team which has a high research profile and opportunities for ongoing CPD. Main duties of the job
- To have sole responsibility for the Senior Adult Oncology Programme (SAOP) working closely with and actively participating in MDTs; liaising with AHPs and the SAOP team. To ensure appropriate common care pathways are established and effective and appropriate information is maintained.
- To be assist in the provision of a highly specialist clinical service, from acute to palliative and terminal stages of care, across the lifespan, to patients referred to the Trust with a wide range of communication and/or swallowing disorders secondary to cancer and/or its treatment. The main referral source is the Head and Neck (H&N) Unit who provide a clinically complex case load where patients have undergone radical treatment including surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.
- To take the SLT role in the development and delivery of teaching and training programmes for professionals and other staff as required regarding SAOP.
- To be responsible for disseminating knowledge, within the Trust and on a national and international basis, through reading, participation in research and advanced clinical practice.

Clinical1.
