University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (279)

Consultant Neurophysiologist

The closing date is 23 April 2026

Job summary

This is a new Consultant in Neurophysiology post for University Hospitals Sussex NHS FT, working with 3 other substantive colleagues to lead the service for patients in Sussex and beyond.

The postholder will work in the new and state of the art Louise Martindale Building at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, alongside other neuroscience specialties, with all the opportunities this will bring.

Main duties of the job

There will be four substantive consultant posts in Neurophysiology as a result of this appointment. The principal responsibility of these posts is to provide regional Neurophysiology services, primarily to the population covered by NHS Sussex. This includes provision of a comprehensive elective and emergency service covering complex and simple EMG and reporting of EEG, evoked potentials and nerve conduction studies. The post-holders will maintain continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and the proper functioning of the Neurophysiology Unit.

As well as clinical provision the consultant posts will have a focus on developing the service in a new facility on the RSCH site. We are therefore looking for candidates who have the skills and ambition to develop the service further including appointment of additional consultants and Registrars to meet the demand on the service in the future but also to enable better integration with affiliated specialties. Potential future developments with affiliated specialties include, but are not limited to, intraoperative monitoring for neurosurgery and spinal surgery, expanded provision of services to ITU and paediatric care, and expansion of EEG Video Telemetry, including development of Home Telemetry services.
