Respiratory Clinical Nurse Specialist – Asthma/COPD

Job summary

This is an exciting time to join the respiratory team as we move into astate-of-the-artrespiratory unit in thebrand-newLouisa Martindale Building. Yourclinical workingenvironment will include the respiratory same day unit on the 9th floor with clear views of the English Channel.

The post holder will provide clinicalexpertiseand knowledge anddemonstratesound understanding of the issues related to patients with Asthma andCOPD includingassessment treatment and management of this client group. The post holder willfacilitateand manage the provision ofhigh-qualitynursing care to patients with Asthma and COPDtoprovideoptimumhealth and support for patients, theirfamiliesand/or carers.

They will utilise skills of leadership and advanced clinicalexpertiseto ensure a seamless service for patients, carers and staff and provide advice,educationand support from diagnosis to end of life care. They will work collaboratively with primary and secondary health care professionals, supporting individuals attending the Trust either as inpatients or outpatients and ensure smooth transitions of care into the community setting.

The successful post holder will join an expanding team as we develop a Tier 3 Severe Asthma Spoke to deliver high quality care to patients with asthma both on an inpatient and outpatient basis: assisting to identify those patients who maybe eligible for biological asthma treatments.

Main duties of the job

  • To have excellent communication skills
  • To communicate sensitive condition-specific information.
  • To work closely with the respiratory service.
  • To ensure confidentiality and adherence to the Data Protection Act is maintained ensuring that full and accurate records of relevant information is documented in patients' medical notes.
  • To be able to advise, negotiate and counsel patients and relatives on the most appropriate treatment.
  • To report and arrange repairs/maintenance of equipment.
  • To lead best practice in nursing care of patients with Asthma.
  • Supporting the Uhsussex biologics MDT by providing information andinsight onpatient needs
  • Supporting the Uhsussex biologics MDT by providing information and insight on patient needs
