Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic doctor to join our clinical team in the Neurology Department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH), Brighton. The post holder will join the Neurology middle grade tier, consisting of 7 NTN SpRs, and take part in the SpR on-call rota. The post is available with immediate effect, until 4 August 2026.
The neurology team includes 17 consultant neurologists employed across the Trust, with 12 based at the RSCH site. We have close links with the neurophysiologists, neurosurgeons and stroke physicians who also work on site.
The role is primarily based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, but the post holder will be expected to be able to travel to other hospital sites within the Trust, including the Princess Royal Hospital, Haywards Heath, and Worthing Hospital.
The role will offer experience in general neurology, and in sub-speciality areas. The role would be particularly suited to someone keen to gain additional neurology experience prior to applying for an NTN.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve the following:
- Overseeing the day to day care of neurology in-patients on B10 ward at RSCH
- Supervision of FY2 and IMT1/2 level resident doctors working within the neurology team
- Liaising with nursing colleagues and therapists
- Assessing newly admitted patients
- Carrying out daily ward duties relating to in-patient medical management
- Reviewing ward referrals and discussing with the supervising consultant
- Undertaking supervised neurology out-patient clinics, including both general and specialist clinics
- Contributing to out of hours on-call
- Attending weekly Neuroradiology MDM
- Attending Thursday afternoon 3pm neurology academic teaching
- Attending additional neurophysiology and ward based neurology teaching
